The Grundel is by its simplicity an easy to sail ship, ideal for the novice flat-bottomed sailor. But also the experienced flat-bottomed sailor appreciates the Grundel. The continuous cabin superstructure, with the mast placed above it, gives headroom in the cabin down to the forecastle. Together with the spacious cockpit, the Grundel offers value for money. The Grundel, a flat-bottomed boat evolved from the punter and is clearly more robust. Grundels were initially equipped with a spritsail rig. Later ships received a gaff rig. It is an old type of ship, which was excellent for the banks of the Zuiderzee and the smaller, adjoining lakes and canals.
